The Mountaineer Pinot Noir pays homage to the pioneering spirit and sense of adventure displayed by mountain climbers confronting the forces of nature and celebrating the beauty and grandeur of the New Zealand Southern Alps. The preparation, passion and commitment are necessary to grow and make Pinot Noir in Central Otago mirror the challenges faced by these pioneering mountaineers. Ripe dark plums, cherries, violets and spice lead into a wine brimming with ample concentrated fruit flavours of red cherries and raspberries on the palate complimented by soft spices and toasty oak influence. Made with grapes grown at low yields in their vineyards located in the central Wairau Valley. A fruit driven style of Bordeaux red with plenty of juicy dark and red fruits and a soft tannin structure. The wine was matured in a mixture of French and American oak barriques, with 10% new, for ten months before blending. In the glass, magenta purple. Aromas of bright, black, and red fruits, complemented with spice, with a hint of chocolate. The palate reveals a medium bodied wine with great fruit purity dark berries and red plum fruit, supple tannins, and lingering flavours.

Sourced from Mount Riley's Brookby Road vineyard in the Southern Valleys sub-region, where the diversity of their Pinot Noir clones allow them to make a complex and complete wine with vibrant, pure fruit character and depth of flavour. The grapes are cold soaked, fermented in small parcels and aged for 7 months in French oak barriques. On the nose, ripe cherry and plum characters are supported by hints of savoury spice and dried herb. The palate is approachable with soft tannins and intense fruit flavour. Silky texture and great length. Great as an aperitif or with savoury tomato or mushroom based dishes, salmon, red meat or pasta.

Grapes sourced from Mount Riley's Seventeen Valley vineyard in Marlborough's Wairau Valley. This is one of their warmest vineyard sites and along with super low yields produces the ripeness levels required for Syrah. Grapes are cold soaked, fermented in small parcels and aged for eleven months in French oak barriques. In the glass, magenta with purple hues. Aromas of floral, spice and white pepper notes. The palate reveals a structured wine with great fruit purity and great length of flavour. Match with red or gamey meats and pasta.

Mt Difficulty is a boutique winery located in Bannockburn, Central Otago, and was named after the mountain overlooking Felton road and the southern Cromwell basin. As the vineyards are ageing Mt Difficulty are starting to see additional complexity emerging each vintage. Inviting and opulent, the palate is flush with sweet cherry & blueberry, followed by trademark earth & savoury notes and framed by baking spice and fine grained French Oak. The fruit floods through to the finish with a juicy balance, indicating acidity that will keep the wine aging well.
